Rubrics, Clicker, and Software

     Rubrics in the classroom are very important if you want the students to turn in the assignment correctly. Using a rubrics gives the students a chance to see what the teacher is going to grade by. If the student has any questions they can ask the teacher before the assignment is do. In this class that we are taking online the teacher gives us a guideline on what she is grading by. We have a timeline that we can go by to make sure we earn the points that are possible on the assignment. I would use rubrics in my classroom. So the student will not have any questions on what I will be grading by.
     Clickers are going to be so fun to use in the classroom. I would of love to have this type of technology when I was going to school. It would of made reviewing for test fun for me. I would of even retained more of the information that the teacher was teaching us. I believe that the clicker makes school and learning a lot of fun. The students in the video that I saw in the web site were having so much fun when they responded to the question and the response came back to their remote quickly. The video also showed that the teacher could view if the student got the answer correctly. This would help the teacher understand what students need help when they do other activities.
     There are so many types of great software that we could use in the classroom. One that we talked about was Kidspiration. This software helps the student improve in their reading and writing, helps build the understanding of math skills, and helps them develop their thinking skills by having chooses of was they can see the problem. Using different software's in the classroom will make the classroom entertaing. As a teacher we can find a software that is great for the students but if you use it all the time the students will get bored. On interesting website that I saw in the school that I work in was Spelling City. It seemed to me that the student were studying their spelling words for the week using the games online. I know that I will use as many software's that I can in the classroom so the student can have a different way to see what the teacher was teaching them.

Digital Storytelling, Visual Math, & TV

      Digital storytelling was very interesting to me. I had not seen it done before I would of thought of it as a play. In a digital storytelling you need to have a begging, middle, and end just like a written story. A digital storytelling activity provides students with the opportunity to work collaboratively in a variety of roles. It also shows that no role is more important than another. If one part is not played right the whole production will show that the group did not work in a team. Using the digital storytelling in the classroom would be great I would defiantly try it out. It would be a different way to teach the student that working together can pay off at the end. I believe that the student would be engaged and eager to learn when using technology equipment.
     Methods to use to visualize mathematical ideas would be using the computer. We can also use programs though the computer called Mathematica and Mathlab Another way that student can visualize math concept would be using the graphing calculator. The students will be able to see how the numbers they input in the calculator will be on a graph. Another thing I read in the book that can help make real is the Geometric Supposer which is a tool for making and testing conjectures in geometry through the process of constructing and manipulating geometric objects and exploring the relationship within and between the objects.
      Watching can be very entertaining but has for me learning something new can not be learned only from watching TV. How would I be able to ask questions? Another thing I would get tired of rewinding the recording on the TV to make sure I am doing the right thing. I know that many students learn the wrong things from watching TV but that is because the parent is not watching them when they are watching TV. When it comes to watching something that they really need to know about life or learning something new the students mind shuts down. I know that not all the students are not the same but the majority think in similar ways.

POD CASTING

     A podcast is a series of digital files that are released often through the web. They are created by someone and you can take it where you want to watch it. Another think that I found interesting is that we do not have to wait the episode to come one a certain time you can watch it where and when ever you wish. I would use it in the classroom to show the students how to do problems using different methods used around the world.
     Podcasting is a little similar to the blogger. You show people what you want. The difference is that all you need to use the podcast is a microphone and a recorder. So you can make you play or movie. Once your done your follows automatically get your new posting and they can watch it where ever they wish.
     As or right now i have not ever had a Ipod or MP3 player, it just has not been to great, many of you can understand. but if i had one i would love to learn how to use everything so i can use it in the classroom. My brother has an Ipod and he has showed me all the different things that he can do with it. One lesson that i have thought about to use podcast in the classroom would be great when taking about the different cultures around the world. I could show them videos in how the people dress and the favorite food that they like to eat.
     One thing is that it is great that we have all theses things that we can do online. We are living it right now that we can get a degree of online or even take course like we are. Their is something that we need to be careful with when using the devices in the classroom, The teacher should always have a back up plan. Because the equipment can break down or you might have a problem with the connection. Working with the new high tech equipment is great, we as teachers just to understand that we are always need to have other plans if stuff goes wrong.

Learning Web 2.0 Applications

     A Wiki is a page, or collection of web pages, which you can choose if you make it public. A Blog is a personal website that contains your personal thouhghts or whatever you would like to share with others. One thing that is different from Wiki and the blog is that in Wiki others can edit the page and on the blog the only thing they can do is comment on your post. When I become a teacher I would like to use the blog, I could start a disscusion in the class and the students would go home and post any comments or concers they might have about the topic. I would would make it work just like we are using it in this class.
     The Socialbookmarking really caught my attention. I had never since it before. It is like saving your favorite websites but on the web where you can access it on any computer. I would love to use the socialcookmorking in the classroom, I would think it would work great with fifth grade students that understand the computer a little more. I would include websites that help the students with their homework and improve their learning from there house. Voice Thread is very interesting to use with the cllassroom but I would want to use it with high school students. Because I could include images, documents, and videos using voice.
     Tapped in builds teachers to support one another through peer networks. In Tapped in they can participate in or lead topical discussion and in groups. Another thing is Tapped in brings educators together both locally and wideworld to cultivate a community that supports each other as professional.

Assessment & E-Portfolio

I have learned that assessment is the process of gathering and analyzing data to determine if intended learning outcomes have been achieved. (Page 219, par. 3) We use the assessment activities to determine where student’s strengths and weakness are. The assessment helps the teacher what she needs to work on with the student. Have a technology assessment is a different way to assess a student. We might even found out that the student understands what we are talking about but does not work well when they are taking a test. Assessments are very important in a classroom and a technology assessment is a new way for teachers to get the feedback they need in order to help the student.

                                                                                                                                

            An e-portfolio is a collection of digitized artifacts which can include video clips, graphics, writing samples, and multimedia presentations. E-portfolios help the students organize and display their work. It can help teachers assess the students learning while also assessing their work. Computer-based is used to simplify the testing process for teachers. The student uses a computer to take a test other than the traditional paper version. In a way, computer-based testing does impact validity because there can always be errors in grading. Reliability can also be affected because there is always the possibility of the computer going down at any time while taking the test. I have taken test by the computer and I find it hard because if you stay on the computer to long your eyes and back start to hurt but that just could be me.

            

            In this chapter I have learned a lot about assessment in the classroom. I t is very important and technology is trying to make it easier for the teachers to get the result quick. I do believe that an assessment is better when it is given on paper. Because on the paper a student can show their strategies that they are using to get the answer. We can see where they are messing up on the problem. On a computer it is a lot easier to guess on an answer just to get it over with. As or the e-portfolio is this new to me. I want to learn more and I cannot wait to see how mine comes out at the end of the semester. I would want my students to be creative when creating an e-portfolio.

Copyright

     I believe that it is important to respect the copyright rules and fair use becuase someone has worked very hard to get the information that they were researching. It would be very wrong someone else to just take credit for someones elses work. I ahve learned that that copyright can be published or unpublished work. I would teach the student about copyright by explaining the term plagiarism which is representing work  that is not their own.
     Cyberbulllying is when you post thing that can hurt someone else feeling. it is just like bulling you are just doing the bulling though the computer by post. One the that we should let every student know that even though you are telling them directly, you can still hurt the persons feeling and that can still lead to things that can cause a lot of damage to you and the other person. Online safety is very imporant we need to make sure that that we will not regret something we post that others can read. For online predators you want to make sure that you know who you are conforming as a friend. I know that you might want to be the one that has the most friends but at the end do you want people that you don't know, knhow what is happening in your daily life. 
     This weeks activity was very interesting. I have learned how to make a post on the blogger (which was very hard for me to figure out), learned all about copyright and the fair use ( on how it is the right why to use the information that we use online), also about online safety and cyberbulling. I also want to apoloagize that my post is late but my whole family including me where sick all last week, but after a hard week this week is looking a lot better.
